Movie: Midnight Runners - Should you Watch it?

  Ever since I started watching Korean dramas, I just had to start watching Korean movies as well. I have recently found out about this film called Midnight Runners. Starring the handsome Park Seo-Joon and the adorable Kang Ha-Neul. I didn't wasn't able to watch the trailer, but I just knew I had to watch it. I mean, with these two boys as the main cast, why shouldn't I watch it? And? After that? Of course I was right to watch it right away. Can I just say though, there were some abs shown too, and I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Midnight Runners is about two police academy students, Gi-Joon (Park Seo-Joon) and Hee-Yeol (Kang Ha-Neul), and their night out looking for girls in a club. As the night progressed, they witness a young woman being kidnapped and decided to investigate. They tried reporting it to the police, but they found out that reporting a kidnapping was not as simple as they thought. They were told there were processes to follow, and it would take a long time, just for the police to start investigating. They were met with apathy, but they had nothing but empathy for the victim. They tried to investigate on their own.

Gi-Joon (Park Seo-Joon) was brought up by his single mother. He enrolled in the Police academy as he was penniless and there was no tuition to pay. He is not the brightest crayon in the box, but he makes up for it with brawn.

Hee-Yeol (Kang Ha-Neul) on the other hand comes from a well-off family, who apparently owns a butcher shop. He's also intelligent and, as he said, has great memory. Although, unlike Gi-Joon, lacks in the muscle department.

Midnight Runners is a comedy/action film. I was honestly laughing out loud a lot of times. I just loved Seo-Jun and Ha-Neul together. Their "Bromance Chemistry" was through the roof. I found them entertaining and it was thrilling to see what they were going to do next. They tried to investigate using the things they learned from school. Although, I should say that some of their ideas were a little unexpected/crazy.

I felt as if they were nothing but sincere with their friendship. They had the "best bro" act down. I was also not disappointed with the amount of fight scenes in the film. I'm not such a big fan of fight scenes, at least not anymore, so I thought it was sufficient for the movie. I preferred seeing their interactions throughout the film.

It was interesting to see these young men try to figure out how to save the victim, even though they knew that they might get expelled trying to investigate on their own. I have truly enjoyed this film, but I don't have such urge to give spoilers though.

I can only hope that most, if not all police trainees/students have the same empathy for victims and the same passion for justice. They may lack in one department, but make up for it through another. Midnight Runners, at first, was a light hearted film, but as it progressed, it makes me think about what can be improved in the justice system.

If you want some action, yet something light and entertaining, you can watch this instead. P.S. It made me a little teary eyed in the end.

I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars!

I've got to be honest and say the cover of the book isn't stupendous. I didn't like it. Then I remember the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover". It was right. I didn't really like it when I first started reading book 1 [Note: It's been a while since I last read a book like this]. Frankly, I thought it wasn't that interesting. I thought it'll be just another book lost in the thousands of mob/mafia romance books. I think a lot of times, most of the good books are lost in the same ocean. I think sometimes we need to swim in that ocean and look for ourselves. Sometimes we come across a part of that ocean and we don't particularly like, but after immersing ourselves in it for a bit of time, we'll find a place for it in our memory. This book is the same. I've grown fond of it after a few chapters.

I have to say, I found several grammatical errors. I don't really mind it though. I write myself, and a lot of times, I don't notice the errors in my words. I apologize if you have. Finding a few grammatical errors in a book doesn't make it bad. It makes it imperfect, but what is perfection really? I have yet to find a "perfect" book. I'm not sure I ever will find a book without flaws. In my opinion, perfection is achieved when you are completely satisfied with something even with its flaws. This series gave a really good fight for it.

I want to point out that what I liked in the book is that it took my imagination to the setting the characters lived in. I was imagining each situation and I was thinking about what I would do if I was in the same position. I liked the characters. Megan was a tough little lady and Antonio was this rough sweetheart. I'm used to reading about tough and hard men who has a soft spot for their lady. I can't promise you it'll be different. Like other books I've read, they also made the female protagonist strong enough to be with her man. What made me like them though is the way they were written. I thought the author was able to write the book in such a way that they're different even when they were so alike with characters from other books. They are very similar, but very different in their own way.

Usually, if I like a book, I'll continue reading it till the end and want more. In this case, I keep putting it down. It isn't because I don't like it, it's because I want to prolong the experience. I don't want it to end, but I know it will soon if I keep reading it. Every time I put it down, I'll listen to a song then start to feel restless. I want to read it again. This has been going on since the day before. I feel so annoyed because the books aren't as long as I want them to be. I wanted to learn more about Megan and Antonio. I also wanted more conflicts, because if there were more, It'll mean it won't end soon. I'm also annoyed because it ended so soon. Will we have more of Megan and Antonio soon?

Overall, I thought this was a good series to read. If I were you though, I would get all three books in one purchase. If you aren't a fan of cliffhangers, go get them all at once. I had to read the next book as soon as I finished reading the one before it. Also, I want to point out I really liked the slang words the author included in each chapter. This thrilled me a lot! and I can't wait to read more books from Amy Rachiele. If she ever does a book tour, sign me up! She already has Book 4 released, which is about two other characters from the story.

BTW, a Booktalk/Spoiler post is on its way for this series, so stay tuned.

I'll give the series 4 Stars !

Note: Amy is giving away free ebooks in her site. I got this from there, so check it out!
*hehe did you read till the end?

Hope you enjoyed reading my review!
Hugs~

Movie Review: The Purge Anarchy

Hi everyone, today I'd like to talk about a movie I just watched. I will probably post this a few days from now. The Purge Anarchy is the sequel of the movie The Purge (see my review here). I was honestly quite excited because I liked the first movie. When I saw the trailer for this, I just could not wait to see it. It got me excited because of how different the situation is from the first movie. The first movie was about a family protecting themselves from people outside while inside their home. The second movie is about different people who are simply trying to survive the purge.

Found the movie poster here (Impawards.com)

What is the "Purge"?
One night every year, all crime is legal, including murder for 12 hours. I believe it starts at 7:00 PM and there are still a few rules people must follow. A few are: Class 4 weapons and lower are allowed to be used and Government Officials ranking 10 and above are granted immunity and must not be harmed.

The Purge Anarchy is about a man who will be taking part in the purge. He wants to take revenge on the man who killed his son. He stumbles upon a situation where a mother and her daughter are about to be killed by a group of armed men. He saves them and they stumble upon a couple whose car broke when the purge was about to start. They become one group who just wanted to  survive that night. This man was on a mission to seek revenge though, will he be able to complete it?

Haven't seen it? You can watch the trailer below

I was honestly terrified for the people who were in that situation. They were going to be in the middle of a war zone. I'm talking about people who never intended to kill someone to feel cleansed, well almost all of them.

In my opinion, it was better than the first movie. The whole thing was still a bit terrifying for me because of how this thing could actually come true one day, but I was very excited to watch it. I was generally happy when I finished the movie because it was quite good. I thought it was interesting although it could have been executed better. I thought the script could have been written better as well.

The main character was played by Frank Grillo. He was this tough man who can't move on from the tragedy of his past. Grillo's performance was superb. I was taken aback by his charisma and broken-man persona. I thought he was perfect for the role. He had these intense moments where I feel as if he has gone through the same experience in real life.

The other characters were alright. I thought a few of them could have acted out their roles better, but that's just me. I liked the amount of action in the movie. It was gory and thrilling at the same time. In my opinion, the Purge Anarchy was a film that could use a bit of improvement here and there, but all in all it was entertaining and was actually quite thrilling. It is a movie I honestly enjoyed watching and I will probably watch it again if given the chance. I heard there was going to be a third movie and I will definitely watch out for it.

Despite the imperfections, I'd give this a 4 out of 5 stars!

~~~SPOILER!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I had to talk about a little of how heart broken I was when the old man who I think was Eva's dad and Cali's grandfather died. I just feel so bad seeing how he was going to sacrifice himself to give his family money. It could have protected the girls in the future, but it was also stupid. If  Sergeant didn't come along the girls would be dead and his sacrifice will be for nothing. It is so sad how he sacrificed his life to somewhat help his girls escape the claws of poverty.
Also, I called out the first half of the end! I just knew he wouldn't do it. Basically most movies don't let the main character take revenge, but the whole "the bad guy came and the man he was supposed to kill saved him part"?I didn't see that. Sorry-not-sorry. I was already telling myself "dammit what now". Well, it all worked out in the end anyway.
Movie Review: Panic Room
Hi everyone!
In this post, I'd like to talk about The Panic Room. It is a movie my grandmother insisted on watching. I haven't seen it before, but my grandma has and she just wanted to see it again. I obliged. Kristen Stewart was in this movie and she was just a teen back then.
Basically, the movie is about a woman and her daughter being trapped inside a "panic room" when three men break in their newly acquired house. Where is daddy dearest to protect the family you ask? Well, the couple were in the middle of their divorce. The mother, Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter, Sarah Altman (Kristen Stewart) will be spending their first night in Manhattan when it all happened. The question here is, Who is the better strategist? Who will outwit the other?
I have to say, I enjoyed the movie.It wasn't too dull that I got bored and relied on my snacks to keep awake and it wasn't too exciting that it kept me on my toes the whole way. This movie was published back in 2002, so of course the gadgets and gizmos back then weren't too impressive. As you can see from the photo above, they were inside a room that had CCTV monitors, which allowed them to see everything happening in the house.
I enjoyed watching the part where the three bad men/burglars tried to get inside their panic room. I don't want to give specific details. I don't want to give spoilers because it will ruin the movie. I'd have to applaud the people behind the movie for their thrill inducing slow motion scenes. They honestly got me all worked up in that one scene. If you want to know what I am talking about, do watch the movie. I was also deeply touched by the mother's actions to protect her child. I'd have to give the cast additional points for being quite believable. I was either touched or angered by the cast. I noted it for it actually made me feel something for the characters. I was rooting for Meg and Sarah while I wanted to bring down the three men.
I think what thrilled me most about the movie is how real it is. A burglar breaking houses happen a lot. No matter what country you are in, it happens everywhere. The thing is, do you have a panic/safe room to hide in when they plan on hurting you? The movie depicts a scenario that will leave you a little bit of doubt before you sleep at night. I know it got me a little bit worried about the possibilities of a burglar breaking in at night
Overall, the movie was great. It had just enough thrill to keep me watching. It had scenes that were very thrill-inducing and ones that allowed me to be laid back. There were a few twists in the movie, which were nice and fitting. I think it is worth watching and I would recommend the movie to everyone looking for something good to watch.
I would have to give it 4 out of 5 Stars! ~~~~
Food Review: Walnut Muffin from Cup of Faith Coffee Shop
Hello!
How is everyone doing? I'd like to share this nice little treat I got last July 25th from a cute coffee shop/Christian bookstore located inside the Christ's Commision Fellowship in Pasig. I was there for a seminar called "Turn Around Marketing". It is called "A Cup of Faith", a very fitting name if you ask me. I wanted to try something from there and decided to go with the Walnut Muffin.
I thought it looked appetizing and the walnuts on the top just made it a whole lot better.
The muffin was soft. It was coming apart a little bit as I tried to eat it. I took photos of it inside the store, but I asked for a bag so I can eat it while walking or while we're still outside the main hall.
I really liked the muffin. It had the right amount of sweetness. The walnuts brought that little crunch and gave it a distinct taste. I think I also tasted cinnamon in there. I liked how it all balanced the taste of the muffin. Usually, the bottom half of a muffin makes me lose my interest because it holds the least flavor. In this case though, the taste of the cinnamon was consistent, which made eating it all good.
The coffee shop was on the second floor of the book shop. It had a flight of stairs that leads to it. If only I was living near CCF, I would love to stay there when reading a book. Although, I did notice how the floor in the coffee shop was a little "shakey". It was like it was vibrating a little bit.
The staff were very accommodating. I like how they handle their customers. They were all smiles and were more than happy to give me information I wanted.
Overall, I'd say it was really nice. I'd buy one again. I'd even try something else from their array of treats. My grandmother said it was the first muffin she actually liked, so that is saying a lot. She does not like muffins and cupcakes. She prefers donuts, but this one passed the test.
Here is a map that shows where CCF is. To all my readers/viewers, I'm sorry this one is located inside the Philippines.
I'd give the muffin a 4 out of 5 Stars!
Note: I'm trying to keep the reviews/posts direct to the point. I don't exactly want to dilly-dally on things that don't really matter. I hope you'd like my posts better this way. If not, you can let me know in the comments below.
Beauty: Godiva Solid Shampoo by Lush
Hi Everyone!
Today, I'd like to talk about something I've been using for the past couple of weeks. To everyone who didn't know, I am a huge "Lushee". I try to go to Lush, the one located in Glorietta, whenever I can. I just love going there because it smells amazing and I love looking at their current products.
By the way, if you didn't know, Lush creates fresh handmade cosmetics. They are basically a vegan, cruelty free company. Check their website here
The first time I ever saw a Lush store, I remember I was immediately drawn by the scent. It was so strong I could clearly smell it from outside. I wanted to buy something but I was skeptical because they were quite expensive. Then, I saw Zoella and Louise vlog about it. If you don't know who they are, click on their names to check their Youtube Channels. They are two of my favorite female vloggers.
They have a product called a shampoo bar. I was immediately drawn to it because the idea of a shampoo being a bar was interesting to me. It would be great whenever I need to travel, or stay somewhere overnight. I was curious with regards to how foamy it would get. I decided to try it out. I got something called the Godiva. It is both a shampoo and a conditioner.
According to LushUSA,
"2-in-1 jasmine shampoo with conditioning butters:
Our vegan, 2-in-1 shampoo bar cleans and conditions your hair with moisturizing nut oils and shea butter. These butters and oils care for dry, processed locks and leave you with glossy, shiny, and softened tresses. Long used as a tonic for the hair and scalp, jasmine also perfumes your locks with an ultra-sexy fragrance with serious staying power. Named after a certain naked protestor, Godiva gets to work sending a message to your hair"
I have thoroughly enjoyed using the Godiva solid shampoo. I am a satisfied customer.
The first thing I noticed after using it during the first few days is that my hair easily gets tangled. I felt as if I didn't use a conditioner. The thing is, once my hair is dry, it feels really soft. After a week or two though, I noticed the whole "just shampoo" feel gradually decreases. I love the smell on my hair and how soft it gets afterwards. I also noticed how after two to three weeks, my hair got a bit shinier. It had a soft glow whenever I looked in the mirror.
This is basically the bar. It contains bits and pieces of conditioner and jasmine inside.
If you are wondering how it is actually used, here is a little how-to video.
How to use:
The shampoo should last for 2-3 months. Mine lasted for a month, but my grandma was using it as well. We both use it twice a day, so you do the math.
P.S. Refrain from keeping it in a container that keeps getting wet. Once it is in a puddle of water, it melts.
Overall, I enjoyed using it. I like how it made my hair soft and a little shiny. I also love the smell. I love smelling my hair while trying to dry it. I would recommend it. I will also buy more. I'll probably try different shampoo bars and solid conditioners. I'd love to see more products from Lush.
I'd give this product 4 Stars!
Food Review: All Meat Pizza by The Pizza Warehouse
I was able to receive the first half of my allowance from my internship.  My mom was also in town which is why I decided to take my family out to eat. We went to a newly opened store called the Pizza Warehouse in Glorietta.
Ambiance: It was pretty generic. It had basic chairs, tables and lighting. The only difference is that they have this big glass screen that allows you to see what happens in the kitchen. You'd be able to see how they prepared the food and if they were clean. It was a nice addition. I don't mind eating somewhere with a generic look as long as the food was good and that it was correctly and cleanly prepared. There were a lot of people eating there and from what I see they didn't mind that the setting was a bit like a food court.
Staff: The staff were nice and accommodating. They happily answered whenever I asked a question. They also replied politely when I asked why their utensils easily broke.
Food: I ordered the 18 inch All Meat Pizza. I always order All Meat Pizza (My Favorite). Because of this, I was prepared to judge it hard.
-The presentation was okay. It was still generic. I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.
-It was still really hot. If they brought it to me cold, I would have complained.
-Taste: The crust was a bit undercooked. It took quite an effort to slice it into little pieces. We often broke the utensils and had to ask for more. To our defense, the utensils were weak and substandard. One of the employees apologized and said that the new utensils won't arrive till the following week. The toppings were really nice though. The meat was seasoned well and was able to dominate the pizza. The cheese they used was also good. I love being able to identify the taste of the cheese in pizza. As much as I love meat, I also love cheese. It was melted and gooey.
 Sorry guys! I got too excited so I forgot to take a photo of the whole pizza. This is what's left when I remembered.
Overall, I'd go back. It was worth it and they did serve good food. I would probably inform them of the slightly undercooked crust next time and maybe they'd get it just right.
I'd give it 4 Stars ★★★★
Food Review: Bacon Cheese Burger by Malcolms' Burgers
I was still doing my internship when I created this post. I forgot to post it.
Hi everyone,
It was lunch time. My friend and I stumbled upon a place called Malcolm's Burger. I like burgers and I told my friend it would be nice to try something new today. She agreed so we bought our lunch and brought it back to the office. I bought their Bacon Cheese Burger while she had the Chicken Sandwich.
Malcolm's Burger uses something called Wagyu Beef, which is actually from a Japanese cow. According to wagyu.org "Not only is it a gastronomic delight, but it’s healthy for you too. Health experts have discovered the mono-unsaturated to saturated fat ratio is higher in Wagyu than in other beef and, the saturated fat contained in Wagyu is different. Forty percent is in a version called stearic acid, which is regarded as having a minimal impact in raising cholesterol levels. The profile of marbled Wagyu beef is more beneficial and healthier to human health." (read more about Wagyu Beef). Apparently, the burger must be consumed in less than three hours.
Ambiance: The place was pretty small. they can only put 2 tables on either side of the counter. Although it has a few more tables and chairs outside. It was very hot because they did not have an air conditioner. They wouldn't really need it though because the majority of the chairs are outside. It looks like one of those take out restaurants who placed a few tables and chairs just so they could say people could dine in. They had such a small space that they wouldn't be able to transform it into a traditional restaurant/ burger joint anyway.
Staff: The cashier was the only one I was able to interact with and he seemed very nice. He was accommodating. He didn't mind me asking about the different burgers. He said one of the best sellers was the Bacon Cheese Burgers and I was happy to try it. I even gave my preference with the bacon and they were happy to comply.
Food: It was really Good!
-The Packaging was a bit different from the other burger joints. Instead of individually packing the chips and the burger, they placed it in one box. Usually, other places that sell burgers and fries separate them, then just put them in one big paper bag.
- The Preparation time was quite short. While waiting, my friend and I bought chocolate bars from the 7-11 beside Malcolm's and once we got back, our food was ready. I wasn't able to take notice of the exact time, but we did take some time picking chocolate bars.
Taste:
-The Buns were soft and didn't easily break apart.
-The Bacon was cooked the way I asked them to cook it. It was crispy without being overcooked.
-The Patties were really good. I thought they were seasoned nicely. It was juicy and overflowed with flavor.
-The lettuce, tomato and onions were all fresh. I liked that they were crisp.
-I also like the chips because they seemed like they were freshly made. they were all crispy and a tad oily.
Overall: I enjoyed my order and I plan on buying something from Malcolm's again. The Bacon Cheese Burger was delicious and I recommend it to people who likes burgers and would like to try something a bit new.
I would give it 4 Stars ★★★★
Book Review: The Reflections of Queen Snow White by David Meredith
Synopsis from Amazon:
What happens when "happily ever after" has come and gone?
On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven's wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven's fiancé, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White's own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing:
The king is dead.
The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old.
It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what "happily ever after" really means?
Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.
I like David Meredith's writing style. I thought that the book was beautifully written. He wrote vivid descriptions. This is the first 3rd person point of view that I've enjoyed for a long time. I usually read first person POVs because they allow me to better imagine situations and understand feelings, but I believe David was able to bring back my interest in reading 3rd person POVs.
The story gives you snippets of her life. The book shows you her life as a child until she becomes a grandmother. It was interesting to me because it was like a "behind the scenes" book. This is not the fairy tale we knew as a child. The book gives you a peek at what happens after the generic "happily ever after" of every childhood book. Snow white was different in this story. She was lonely, depressed and broken. I thought it was interesting and keeps you guessing what will happen next. It tackles several things/lessons:
1. Love is undying and unconditional
2. Moving on
3. Death doesn't mean the end of one's love; love doesn't die
4. A parent's love is unconditional
5. Time goes by so fast
6. Finding Happiness
7. Face your Fears
I would like to point out that the book contains violence and graphic content. This is a book that is made for young adults to adults. Let's just say 18 and above.
In conclusion: I liked the book. I liked how David was able to piece together snippets without it being confusing. It's an interesting read and it makes me wonder what happened to the other fairy tales.
I received an e-copy for a fair and honest review.
I'd give it 4 Stars ! ★★★★
Thank you David
Book Review: Until November by Aurora Rose Reynolds
Until November (Until Series Book 1)
~1st Person POV
A nice sweet book which will keep you happy for a couple of hours. It has its troubled times, but nothing too "angsty". It's a nice book to read after more dramatic novels. It's a good read, but it's not very striking to one's mind. I liked the characters, but I didn't feel the "this is it!" factor.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
"November is looking forward to getting to know her father and the safety of a small town. After leaving the Big Apple and her bad memories for Tennessee, November starts working for her dad at his strip club doing the books. The one time she’s allowed there during club hours she runs into Asher Mayson. He’s perfect until he opens his mouth and makes assumptions. November wants nothing to do with Asher but too bad for November, fate has other plans.
Asher Mayson has never had a problem getting a woman, that is until November. Now all he can think about is making November his and keeping her safe. "
Before I read this book, I was a bit intrigued at how Asher was working for the strip club. I seriously thought it would be like Magic Mike *lol* but no! Asher isn't a stripper, he only checks up on the security at the club. I liked November's father. He seems like a very nice man, but he and his brother owns a strip club. If I met him in real life, I bet I wouldn't even have any idea he's interested in owning a strip club. I liked how the town felt real to me. People were nice, but rumor easily goes around. I just felt like the setting was nice and Asher's house was a nice touch.
Asher, the handsome and sexy business owner who built his own house was wonderful. He's a good guy with a bad boy image. I liked it. I thought he was a little too alpha possessive. I would have gone nuts if he was a real person. After I read the whole book though, I was interested in Asher more. I was a little too annoyed though at how Asher kept using "baby" in every line in the middle of the story. The word was over used and I kept telling myself he didn't use it in the sentence before.
November is a really nice heroine, she's brave and kind. As much as I like her, I couldn't put her on my favorite heroines list. I remember Asher's personality and behavior more than November. Is it just me or is she a bit forgettable?
Overall, there were a few scenes where I wish it was shorter, and some which I wanted longer. The final battle or problem they had to face seemed really nice for me, but it ended a little too tamely and quickly. I would have loved to see Asher act on it too.
I've read this book days ago, but I wasn't able to write about it, until now. It's amazing how I still remember it well and it wasn't buried in the past after I've read several books recently. It's a good book to recommend. There are parts which showed how sweet Asher was, and I want to share those, but I want to keep this as spoiler free as possible as well. To say things simply, it was sugary sweet.
I can't wait to read the following books which will be about Asher's brothers, and boy are they good lookin!
Book Review: Charade by Nyrae Dawn
Charade [Games Series Book 1]
~1st Person POV
It was a really good book. I've read it before and I recently reread it before I continued with book 2 of the series. The book didn't really get as much attention as it did for me before, but it still managed to make me shed a few tears.
Synopsis from Amazon:
"Nineteen-year-old Cheyenne tries to portray the perfect life to mask the memories of her past. Walking in on her boyfriend with another woman her freshman year in college threatens that picture of perfection.
Twenty-one-year-old Colt never wanted college and never expected to amount to anything, but when his mom's dying wish is for him to get his degree, he has no choice but to pretend it's what he wants too.
Cheyenne needs a fake boyfriend to get back at her ex and Colt needs cash to take care of his mom, so they strike a deal that helps them both. But what if Cheyenne’s past isn’t what she thought? Soon they’re trading one charade for another—losing themselves in each other to forget about their pain. The more they play their game, the more it becomes the only thing they have that feels real.
Both Cheyenne and Colt know life is never easy, but neither of them expect the tragedy that threatens to end their charade and rip them apart forever."
When I started reading this book, I was a few pages in and I instantly found it interesting. Cheyenne finds out his boyfriend[now ex-boyfriend], Gregory was cheating on her on her freshman year in college. Worse than finding out he's been doing it for a long time, she finds herself without actual friends since they only knew her through her cheating ex.I liked how it started with her seeing Gregory in bed with another woman because it would instantly intrigue you. I asked myself the first time I read it, what the hell will she do? What will happen now? I kept reading. I also kept finding reasons to keep reading. I think the alternating POVs of the hero and heroine helped with it. They were both battling their demons and it was interesting to see how the other mind thinks and sees the situation at hand. I thought the whole charade kept the book interesting in the start and even though I knew at some point it would make them actually be together, I still wondered where it was going and how far it would go.
Cheyenne was an okay heroine. She showed some bravery and strength, which are my favorite traits for the heroines. There were some moments that I thought were a bit annoying. I found myself either sighing, rolling my eyes or furrowing my brows a few times. Then again, it may just be me. Don't get me wrong, I do like Cheyenne, but I don't love her. She was a good character and I want to read more of her thoughts.
On the other hand, I love Colt! His love for his mom just breaks my heart. He's this 'bad-ish' boy who has a golden heart, but needs to see it. His POV made me cry the first time I read the book and shed a few more tears the second time. Oh how I love reading about his struggles. He's doing everything he can and it breaks my heart to read his thoughts. The author did a splendid job on him. He had a few outbursts and no one could blame him. I felt this character more than Cheyenne. I have to say though that I think they really do fit together.
I just have to stress out one of the things this book taught me: Cherish your parents. I had goosebumps near the end and I just cried. The way it was written, I felt like I was in pain like Colt and Cheyenne. I honestly felt it and I loved it. I found out this author should be part of your 'Authors to watch out for' lists!
★★★★ ~~~ 4 Stars!
The next book is about another character. I'll try to put up the book review soon. ~xo
